2014 Melanie

A fortified, bottle-aged sweet shiraz that the maker stresses is not in the traditional fortified vintage style because the grapes were purposefully very ripe when harvested, and a neutral spirit was used rather than brandy. Certainly shares some of the richness and sweet-spiced intensity of a vintage fortified, with a solid depth of ripe black fruits, licorice, choc-mint and coffee grounds with an enveloping nutty warmth. Makes you want to cosy up with a glass and a slice of fig and walnut panforte. Brilliant. 500ml.
