30 years of Anderson winery

Anderson Cellar door opened it's doors for the first time on the March long weekend in 1993.

Howard had already been a winemaker for over 25 years before that, working for other wineries (hence our recent 50 years of Sparkling wines celebrations), but by the early 90's he was ready to do his own thing.

1991 - Howard made his first batch of wine (a Shiraz) to be released under the Anderson label, using purchased grapes and the facilities of another local winery.

1992 - Howard planted the first hectare of vines (Shiraz) and built a winery (where our cellar door still is) on his newly purchased property.

1993 - Anderson Cellar door opened.

All our 90's vintage wines were made by Howard from purchased local grapes because our vineyard didn't come into production until the year 2000 (we got hit with frost and then hail while the vines were very young so it took much longer for them to fruit). Now that we grow all our grapes as well as make all our wine, our range of wines has completely changed to reflect the varieties we have chosen to plant on our vineyard site.

Check out this wine list we found in our archives from Winter 1993. You can see our wine selection has evolved quite a bit since then! (and so have prices....)
